Exemplary Practices in Academic Advising

Training

The University Faculty Senate legislation calls for "On-going training for all advisers within a comprehensive development program."

Ideal Practice

Training programs for academic advisers must develop advising skills and behaviors and cultivate a comprehensive approach to educational planning as a part of the advising process. They should teach advisers how to give accurate and timely information and advance the goal of increased satisfaction with advising for both students and advisers. Training should include ongoing experiences and workshops.
