Action

Deadline

Administrative course cancellation A course registration error may be corrected with this procedure only during the semester or session in which the error occurred or before the end of the next semester. Therefore, the administrative course cancellation deadline for a course scheduled during the fall semester would be the end of the following spring semester. Summer sessions are ignored when the deadline is determined; the deadline for a course scheduled for the spring semester or any summer session would be the end of the following fall semester.

Concurrent majors College deans have the flexibility to approve a student's request for a concurrent major at any time prior to the student's graduation.

Corrected grade The deadline for an instructor to change a student's grade in a course is one year after the end of the semester in which the course was taken. After one year, grades cannot be changed except by appeal through petitioning the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Education.

Deferred grade, completing The deadline for completing a deferred grade is the end of the sixth week of the next semester unless the following semester is a summer session and the student is not enrolled. If not enrolled for summer, the student has until the end of the sixth week of fall semester. If the student is enrolled in course work for summer, regardless of session or campus, the deferred-grade expiration date is the last day of classes in the second six-week summer session.

Deferred grade, requesting A deferred grade should be requested by the end of the final exam period (fall and spring semesters) or by the last day of classes (summer session).

Drop/Add The drop/add deadline for full-semester courses (fall and spring semesters) is the tenth calendar day of the semester. The drop/add deadline for part-semester and summer sessions courses depends on the start and end dates of each course.

Students and advisers can check drop deadlines for courses the student has scheduled by using the Course Drop Dates application on eLion. The drop/add deadline for any part-semester course can be obtained from ISIS screen ARIRP.

Entrance to major The time for declaration of major varies among the colleges. However, before attaining fifth-semester classification, students enrolled in a college generally must gain entrance to a major in order to continue registration as degree candidates unless an exception has been granted.

The deadline for applying for majors with administrative enrollment controls is typically in mid-February of the student's fourth semester of enrollment (the “pool semester”).

Final exam conflict The deadline for filing for a final exam overload conflict varies from campus to campus. At University Park, the deadline for fall semester is typically in October; the deadline for spring semester is typically in March.

Grades, reporting Grades are to be recorded no later than two business days after the final examination or final course assessment.

Grades, request for mail The deadline for a student to request that a grade report be mailed to him or her is determined by the Registrar's office. It is at least one week after classes end for the semester or session for which grades are being requested.

Intent to graduate The deadline for a student to notify the University of his or her intent to graduate is approximately two weeks after the beginning of the semester (fall and spring semesters) or mid-June (summer sessions).

Late course add The late add deadline is the last day of classes in the semester/session when the course is offered.

Late course drop The late drop deadline for full-semester courses (fall and spring) is the end of the twelfth week of the semester. The late drop deadline for part-semester and summer session courses depends on the start and end dates of the course.

Students and advisers can check late drop deadlines for courses the student has scheduled by using the Course Drop Dates application on eLion. The late drop deadline for any part-semester course can be obtained from ISIS screen ARIRP.

Leave of absence A leave of absence form should be filed by the last working day before classes start in the semester/session the leave will begin.

Minor, applying for a To graduate with a minor, a student must be accepted into the minor before the late drop deadline of his/her last semester; however, if the minor has an entry fee, the student must be accepted before the end of the drop/add period of that semester.

Students can be awarded a minor after they graduate if they have met all the requirements for the minor prior to their graduation.

No Grade, changing an NG
to a grade
An NG must be reconciled by the last day of the fourth week of classes in the following semester or by the last day of classes in the fourth week of the second six-week summer session (whichever is appropriate). This deadline applies whether or not the student is enrolled in the following semester/session.

Petition, filing a There is no deadline for filing a petition to the University Faculty Senate. However, students are encouraged to file petitions as soon as it is practicable.

Registration The deadline for course registration is the last day of the drop/add period. Students who begin their registration after this date will be considered late registrants and will be assessed a late registration fee. The exception would be for a student registering for one or more courses that all begin later in the semester. In this case, late registration is determined by the course with the earliest-starting late-drop period.

Retroactive registration The deadline for submitting a request for retroactive registration is the end of the ninth month following the end of the semester or session for which the student seeks registration.

Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (“pass/fail”) grade request The deadline for filing a request for the satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade option is the twenty-first day of the semester. After that, a course cannot be changed back to the traditional letter-grading system.

Study abroad Varies, but generally the deadlines are January 20 for fall programs, February 1 for summer programs, and April 1 for spring programs; see Education Abroad's Application Deadlines for specifics.

Withdrawal The deadline for withdrawing from all courses in a semester/session is the last day of classes (before the final exam period begins). Summer session withdrawals cannot be processed on eLion; they must be processed in the Registrar's office.

If a student is unable to be on campus to process a withdrawal and cannot process the withdrawal through eLion for any reason, he or she should contact the appropriate dean's office to initiate the withdrawal process.
