The mission of academic advising at the Pennsylvania State University is to further the teaching mission of the University by providing quality, accessible advising to all students. Academic advising is a collaborative teaching relationship among academic advisers, students, faculty, and the University community. Academic advising programs support students’ successful navigation of the University’s academic opportunities, policies, systems, and procedures. In addition, the advising programs are organized to promote intellectual discovery, encourage students to take advantage of both in- and out-of-class educational opportunities, and help them identify and achieve their career goals. Working with advisers, students assume responsibility for their education and become lifelong, self-directed learners and decision makers.
