The purpose of the Advising @ PSU website is to provide a central source of information about academic advising and related educational topics at Penn State. This site includes original material developed specifically for the site as well as links to many other websites with relevant academic information for students, faculty, and staff University-wide. It is not, however, an index to all topics at Penn State.
Navigating this Site
The blue bar at the top of the Web page is the navigation bar, consisting of a series of links and drop-down menus. From this navigation bar, which appears at the top of every page within the Advising @ PSU website, you can return to the home page or go directly to pages in the Alpha Index, Topic Index, FAQ, Quick Links, etc.
The home page is divided into six main sections:
- What's new?
This section is used to announce new majors and minors, changes in academic polices and procedures, featured websites, educational opportunities, news articles, and updates on other academic issues of interest. Each brief announcement includes a link to another Web page with more detailed information.

This section features six ways to locate academic information through this website:

- What's coming up?
This section provides a countdown to two important University deadlines, academic events, or holidays that are coming up in the next several months, as well as a calendar for the current month with a link to month-by-month calendars of events and deadlines.
- Special Features
This section provides links to a variety of Web pages that were developed specifically for Advising @ PSU, including a description of the advising system at Penn State, a listserv for academic news, a glossary of academic terms, and other advising-related topics.
This section provides links to a number of key Penn State academic websites as well as to an Advising @ PSU Web page that describes each of these websites in more detail.
This section displays a different quotation each day of the month. All of the quotations are about advice, advising, or other aspects of education.
The central graphic on the home page is an armillary sphere, an ancient astronomical instrument consisting of a set of rings surrounding a sphere representing the Earth and used to show the position of the rising and setting sun. This graphic, designed by Jason Tremblay (B.A., Integrative Arts, Penn State, 2000), was inspired by the bronze armillary sphere on the front lawn of Old Main at the University Park campus.
This website was developed by the Division of Undergraduate Studies in consultation with the Undergraduate Student Government's Academic Assembly, other Penn State students, academic advisers, faculty, and staff members.
